What is Gita Jayanti
Today is Margasheersha Shukla Ekadashi which is called मोक्षदा एकादशी (Mokshada Ekadashi). Mokshada means ‘the giver of Liberation’.
It is celebrated as Gita Jayanti, because on this day Bhagavan Sri Krishna gave the sacred knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna at the Kurukshetra.
Srimad Bhagavad Gita holds a very important place in our scriptures. It is said – गीता सुगीता कर्तव्या किमन्यैः शास्त्रविस्तरैः। One should study Gita properly rather than going through full expanse of the scriptures.
If Sri Krishna gave this teaching, it was Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda ji who brought it to our living room from puja room. Pujya Gurudev’s name has become synonymous with Bhagavad Gita because of His Jnana-yajnas (lecture series).
It cannot be a mere coincidence that Pujya Gurudev’s Guru Sri Swami Tapovan ji Maharaj was born on this very auspicious day and hence the day is also celebrated as Tapovan Jayanti.
It is indeed a very auspicious day of confluence of Jnana (Gita) and Vairagya (Tapovanji Maharaj), which will lead us to Moksha!
ॐ श्रीकृष्णाय नमः।
ॐ श्री तपोवन-परमगुरवे नमः।
ॐ श्री चिन्मय-सद्गुरवे नमः।
